St James’s Enhances X-ray Capabilities

  • Two Ysio wi-D X-ray systems from Siemens Healthcare assist high patient workflow in hospital’s Emergency Department and wards.

St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has installed two Ysio wi-DTM systems from Siemens Healthcare. Following the digital X-ray installations, chest imaging workflow in the hospital’s Emergency Department and wards has been boosted. In addition to wireless X-ray detectors for general imaging procedures, both systems also feature a vertical bucky for chest examinations.

This combination enhances patient comfort removing the need for patients to be transferred to the examination table. The Ysio wi-D’s wireless mobile detector provides greater imaging flexibility, versatility of use and greater coverage, reducing patient examination times. In addition to high resolution images, the Ysio system provides automatic image orientation and fast image preview functionality, working in synergy to streamline processes and improve patient workflow. The optional clinical table allows hospitals to cater for a variety of patient sizes, heights and conditions.

“Installation of the two Ysio wi-D X-ray systems has enabled us to manage high patient workflow from our Emergency Department and wards,” states Jane Bewell, Principal Superintendent for X-ray at St James’s Hospital. “By using a combination of the vertical bucky and the mobile wireless detector, we can X-ray most patients without removing them from a hospital trolley, minimising stress for those in a critical condition or with limited mobility. Staff have commented on the user-friendliness and flexibility the systems offer, with the diagnostic monitor providing strong image clarity to support diagnosis.”

“The Ysio wi-D offers versatile configurations for general or dedicated imaging application use, enhancing both patient workflow and comfort through its wireless detector. Its use of advanced imaging functionality offers convenience and rapid, clear results to radiographers,” states Joanne McAuliffe, Product Manager for X-ray and Fluoroscopy Systems at Siemens Healthcare.

“We are very pleased the two Ysio wi-D installations at St James’s University Hospital are providing the flexibility and image quality sought by staff as they meet the needs of a busy hospital.” The installation of the two Ysio wi-D systems formed part of an extensive modernisation programme carried out at the hospital’s Chancellor Wing X-ray Department. The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Ann Castle, officially reopened the department on completion of the program.
