Emanate Wireless Launches PowerPath Temp, Revolutionizes Healthcare Refrigeration Monitoring

Emanate Wireless Chief Executive Officer Neil Diener announced today the launch of the company's newest solution, PowerPath Temp, a healthcare refrigeration-monitoring device Diener says will be "a game-changer in the healthcare industry."

"Today's devices monitor the temperature of refrigerators and let healthcare industry employees know when temperatures fall out of spec," Diener explained. "Our newest device, PowerPath Temp, monitors AC power in addition to temperature parameters. That means it's capable of notifying healthcare workers before there's a problem."

For the healthcare industry, this new product represents an opportunity to preserve often-expensive or even irreplaceable products like pharmaceuticals, vaccines, or human organs and tissues requiring a constant temperature for storage.

By monitoring the AC power current, PowerPath Temp from Emanate Wireless can detect laboring compressors and notify maintenance personnel before refrigeration fails. Notification is accomplished via a browser-based dashboard or mobile application. In this manner, the devices from Emanate Wireless are capable of saving thousands of dollars — or of saving lives.

"Imagine having to explain to an organ or tissue recipient that a donated product has spoiled," said Diener. "Now imagine never having to. That's the difference this new product will make for some people. We couldn't be more proud to bring it to market, and I couldn't be more proud of our engineering team for creating it."

PowerPath is easily installed without any particular, mechanical expertise. It mounts on the side of a healthcare or pharmaceutical refrigerator or freezer and gets plugged-in between the refrigerator or freezer's plug and an AC outlet. Its temperature probe gets inserted from the back of the refrigerator or freezer's plug or behind the door seal.

In addition to temperature and AC power status, PowerPath Temp can monitor other conditions, such as whether a door has been left ajar — another condition that can lead to ruin for healthcare providers. The device includes a rechargeable, lifetime battery and Wi-Fi technology. It also features low-energy Bluetooth technology to communicate to the PowerPath mobile application.

An Ohio company, Emanate Wireless invents, engineers and manufactures real-time location and asset monitoring solutions for the healthcare industry.

Vivify Health's technology is used by the nation's largest health organizations, representing more than 500 hospitals and payers, to efficiently manage, monitor and engage patient populations of all sizes and risk levels. Founded in 2009, Vivify was the first company to offer a Cloud-based solution for mobile population health and chronic care management using any consumer mobile device.

"After an extensive evaluation of a number of companies, Vivify Health clearly stood out to us as the one best aligned to deliver patient-centered remote care across UPMC's integrated payer/provider system," said Tal Heppenstall, President of UPMC Enterprises, the commercialization arm of UPMC which led the Vivify investment.  "As we deliver care under an increasingly risk-based reimbursement model, we are excited to become a customer, development partner and investor in Vivify's scalable population health management technology. Uniquely positioned for true population health management

Vivify Health solutions enable insurance and provider organizations to conduct virtual care visits, communicate seamlessly with patients and members, and remotely monitor any patient population, such as those with chronic illnesses. The solutions are tailored to patients of all levels of technology expertise, from an "instant-on" health kit for consumers with limited or no technology experience, to a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) solution for those who prefer to use their own devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

"Vivify's remote monitoring and communication technology is essential to making patients true partners in their care and providing the right services when and where they need them, increasingly at home," said Andrew Watson, MD, UPMC's Medical Director of Telemedicine and Vice President of UPMC International. With a specially trained team they offer personalized care wherever someone may call home. Focused on helping patients and families prepare and cope physically, emotionally and spiritually. Hospice by the Bay also provides additional services to the community, including grief counseling and training in end-of-life care. The overall goal of hospice care during a terminal illness is compassionate care and comfort rather than a cure. Managing this crucial point in a person’s life relies heavily on creating a seamless communication, a seamless delivery of service, and a seamless engagement and comfort of the patient.

To easily meet those goals and manage patient care, it was essential to utilize a simple to use and simple to deploy mobile healthcare technology. With a dedicated focus to maximize information exchange among different care providers enabled with successful collaboration and outcomes, CellTrak offered Hospice by The Bay a mobile technology solution product family. Hospice by the Bay first implemented VisitManager for their aides to capture data and the point of care and interface back into the electronic medical record (EMR) provider, Suncoast Solutions. The CellTrak VisitManager seamlessly interfaces to the system and allowed for aides to access schedules and care plans. Recently, they found another need for their nurses to have better accountability and safety, eliminate paper work, and reduce mileage reimbursement all while using a cost effective solution. For the need they had, laptops were a costly expense. Hospice by the Bay chose TimeManager, a CellTrak solution for time and attendance.

Alex Liang, Network Systems Administrator at Hospice by the Bay, commented, “CellTrak provided a perfect solution for our HHA’s and it has been very easy to work for the past few years. We have seen many improved outcomes with the use of VisitManager with access to care plans and scheduling. When we needed a solution for our nurses we turned to CellTrak for a cost-effective mobile solution. Mileage is now reported accurately and with minimal effort by the field staff so that they can concentrate on patient care and not calculate how far they have driven for each visit.”

Liang added, “The best thing was that we could use a trusted solution for multiple disciplines. Since CellTrak offered multiple solutions we were able choose a solution based on need and by discipline. There are not any other options like this in the market to fit our needs”

Denis Viscek, CFO added, “We are very happy with our implementation and execution in the field with TimeManager for our nurses in addition to our aides using VisitManager. The technology solution is helping improve operational processes and assisting in improving patient outcomes by allowing the nurses to focus on patient care while the application is working for them in real-time on their mobile device.”

At Hospice by the Bay, they are dedicated to helping meet goals about what’s important to your well-being during this time. They talk honestly with you and your family so they can guide you. Your personal physician is their partner in the management of your care to ensure the highest quality of life possible. Patients and their families frequently tell Hospice by The Bay they wish they had called earlier, so they could have benefited that much longer from their personalized care. Patients do get the most benefit from hospice support when care begins earlier in their illness.

Michael K. Wons, President and CEO of CellTrak Technologies added, “It has been a pleasure working with the team at Hospice of the Bay. We are incredibly pleased to help with improving their electronic documentation and bettering staff accountability. The solution has been designed to be cost effective and to meet the needs of the different disciplines that help deliver home and personal care services."

In addition to the GPS features that keep workers safe, integrated visit verification and automated mileage tracking and expense calculations streamline administrative workflow saving time and increasing accuracy of results. Blood Pressure Monitoring Testing Market is Expected to Reach USD 3.7 Billion Globally in 2019

According to a new market report published by Transparency Market Research "Blood Pressure Monitoring Testing Market Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast, 2013 - 2019," the global blood pressure monitoring testing market was valued at USD 1,713.3 million in 2012 and is estimated to reach a market worth USD 3,661.3 million in 2019 at a CAGR of 11.5% from 2013 to 2019.

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of heart diseases and strokes globally. The exact cause of high blood pressure is unknown but it develops with changing lifestyle and growing age. Rise in prevalence of high/low blood pressure is attributed to sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity geriatric population and rising stress. Blood pressure monitors are widely used by physicians in clinics, hospitals and even by patients themselves at home for self-monitoring. With the rising incidence rate of hypertension there is an increase in awareness about monitoring techniques, creating a substantial rise in demand for blood pressure monitoring devices.

There are various social, behavioral and metabolic factors that determine and contribute to the development of high blood pressure (hypertension). The blood pressure monitoring and testing market can be segmented as sphygmomanometers, automated blood pressure monitors, ambulatory blood pressure monitors, blood pressure transducers, and blood pressure instrument accessories. Manufacturers are coming up with new and innovative digital blood pressure monitoring devices that are easy to use and provide accurate readings instantly.

The digital sphygmomanometers market is expected to grow at a faster rate compared to other types of sphygmomanometers (mercury and aneroid) as they are easier to use and provide comparatively accurate results. Technological advancement is another important factor responsible for the growth of this market. mHealth is the new technological breakthrough in the healthcare market, where ubiquitous mobile technology supports the growth and successful implementation of mobile technology in healthcare industry. Prevention and early detection are the important factors for regular monitoring. Hence, mobile and portable devices would help the patient population to monitor their parameters. Devices when connected wirelessly would automatically transmit the required data of the patients to healthcare professionals. The North American market accounted for the largest share of more than 40% in 2012 and is expected to dominate the market during the forecasted period.

This accelerated growth is mainly due to rising population, sedentary lifestyle, increasing stress and changing lifestyles. It is estimated that one in every three Americans suffer from hypertension and an individual is three times more susceptible to heart diseases when suffering from hypertension.

The Asia-Pacific region is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of over 12% from 2013 to 2019, due to expanding population base coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, triggering growth in this region. Prevalence of high blood pressure is more rampant in low or middle income countries as compared to high-income countries due to a growing number of people with undiagnosed, uncontrolled and untreated high blood pressure.

Ambercare Uses Mobile Healthcare Solution for Documentation at the Point of Care

Ambercare Uses Mobile Healthcare Solution for Documentation at the Point of Care

Home Health and Hospice care leader uses CellTrak VisitManager™ technology across entire organization to better patient immediate needs.

Ambercare is unique. Founded by Michael and Mary Merrell over 15 years ago, Ambercare is now employee-owned, so every patient is cared for by an owner. That is only one reason why the “Ambercare Standard of Care” is far superior to other home care providers. Because we embrace a holistic model of care delivery, patients can count on fully coordinated services with a single call. Their “bridge” model is designed to provide maximum flexibility to accommodate the shifting needs our patients may incur.

Ambercare elevates home health care standards. Their caregivers don’t merely do their job; they fulfill a personal mission, treating each patient and family member as their own. You rarely hear someone who is sick, plead to stay in the hospital. Regardless of condition, anyone would rather be home, in their own bed, in their own surroundings, and with the company of family and friends. But return to home requires careful attention and exacting care in order to ensure excellent patient recovery which is where Ambercare excels.

Ambercare has been using Suncoast Solutions as their electronic health record (EHR) for several years. CellTrak has offered a seamless integration with Suncoast enabling Ambercare to simplify and lower mileage reimbursement, obtain better staff accountability and ensure safety of staff. CellTrak was originally implemented for their home health aides but has now successfully rolled out to their field coordinators and also clinical liaisons. For the mobile field staff, CellTrak was able to offer them a very important option; choice. Ambercare decided to implement Blackberry and iPhone for their point of care devices.

Michael Merrell, COO at Ambercare commented, “When choosing CellTrak we were very happy to be offered a choice when selecting a cost effective device. As we have different departments on different devices we were able to select multiple devices according to the department using them” Mr. Merrel added, “We are successfully running visits, utilizing our staffs time better all while documenting at the point of care. We have embraced this technology to better utilize resources and serve our patients to accommodate their ever-changing needs. ”

At Ambercare, they stress comfort and quality of life at every stage of one’s time with us. When life is limited to days, weeks or months, rather than years, it takes a special person to know how to best help a patient as well as family and friends make that time as comfortable and meaningful as possible. Ambercare Hospice caregivers are highly skilled and expertly trained in dealing with the challenges that end-of-life presents. They whole-heartedly provide their patients and their loved ones with empathy, support and compassion every step of the way.

Michael K. Wons, President and CEO of CellTrak Technologies added, “Ambercare has been a pleasure to work with. They have truly embraced all aspects of our technology and have utilized this among multiple disciplines across their organization.” Wons added “This technology adaptation sets them apart and derives from their values of experiencing the Ambercare Standard of Care. We look forward to future expansions together in our partnership” In addition to the integrated visit verification features of the solution, the GPS features available as part of CellTrak takes the guess work out of calculating mileage. GPS tracks the mileage to and from each patient’s home and immediately stores it in the system. It also gives staff members the ability to get directions from wherever they are to a patient’s home.
